Botanical List -
I'm going to try working with the botanical names as
well as common names so there won't be confusion
about which plant is which.  Here is a partial list of
what was in bloom on May 12, 2007:

Catherine Creek - Columbia Gorge - May 12
After a beautiful early morning drive along the
Columbia River Gorge, we crossed the river (via the
Hood River Bridge ($1 toll - see below) to Bingen,
Washington, and proceeded up river past a succulent
grove of poison oak to beautiful Catherine Creek.
It was a camas hunt for my fellow hikers, and we
found beautiful swales full of it.  We studied the
various plants, and it was really interesting being on
a hike with people who can identify so many plants by
their characteristics, even before they open the
book.
