This Bullock's oriole was trying to cool down this morning by splashing all of the
water out of the bird waterer. Brilliant yellow. Years ago a pair built one of their
exquisite hanging nests in our big oak tree.
I brought home some nice new watering trays, clean and deep so they could hold
lots of water. I took down this old one and put up the new one. The birds flew
down, gave it one look, and refused to use it. I guess they prefer shallow and
slimy to deep and clean. Who could have known?
